PAST EVENT: This was part of the EAF25 programme.
For Mercedes Azpilicueta’s first solo exhibition in Scotland, Collective presented an installation featuring a monumental tapestry with an accompanying soundscape, alongside choreography drawings, and performance prop and costume elements.
From Buenos Aires and now based in Amsterdam, Azpilicueta’s work explored care and resistance, revealing overlooked female histories. The tapestry’s rich and layered collage of archival and contemporary imagery referenced war, food economies, collective action, and women-led global rights movements.
A live performance by Azpilicueta, in collaboration with Scottish movement artist Janice Parker, connected the themes of the tapestry to the histories of Collective’s site on Calton Hill, bringing the costume elements of the exhibition to life.
