The Community Wellbeing Collective (CWC) are a growing group of 30+ people from, and connected to, Wester Hailes – practising mutual care, responsibility, vulnerability, and solidarity. They were brought together in 2021 by social-practice artist Jeanne van Heeswijk, as part of a joint commission by EAF and WHALE Arts.
Open throughout the year, the Community Wellbeing Space they created is a place to be together, build belonging and create access to wellbeing as a radical act. You can expect a warm welcome, free wellbeing activities run by members, and find your way of participating. This is an ongoing collaborative process imagining and cultivating a more just and caring world.
CWC run monthly Anchor Events exploring the wider politics of wellbeing with collaborators. This August, CWC are joined by Haven for Artists, EAF’s collective in-residence for conversation, food and an open mic – exploring what urgencies, desires and offerings can be shared across borders, how to care collectively, creating spaces of safety and respite in a world of precarity.
Supported by the PLACE Programme, a partnership between Edinburgh Festivals, Scottish Government, City of Edinburgh Council and Creative Scotland. With additional support from British Council and National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.
