St Margaret’s House is a multi-purpose arts space operated by Scot-ART (formerly known as Edinburgh Palette), located in Edinburgh’s Meadowbank area.

Originally secured by Scot-ART as a vacant, ex-government office building in 2008, St Margaret’s House is now home to over two hundred studios with budding artists, craftmakers and community organisations.

Today St Margaret’s House remains at full occupancy and comprises gallery space, community arts space, a cinema room, printmaking studio, ceramics studio & kilns, recording studio, theatre, rehearsal spaces, martial arts dojo, library, swap shop, meeting rooms and lounges.

More than a thousand artists and community members visit St Margaret’s House every week.

Access

Please note that St Margaret’s House has multiple entrances: one basement entrance via the car park (which has step-free access), and one off of London Road (which does not).

Getting here

On foot: The main pedestrian entrance is accessible from London Road, via a footbridge with two sets of steps. You will find the space beside the Registers of Scotland building. Step-free access is via the car park only.

By public transport: St Margaret’s House has several frequent bus services which connect it with the city centre, Waverley train station, the bus station and other parts of the city.
Lothian Buses routes: 4, 5, X5, X7, 26, X26, 44, 45, 104, 113 & 124

By car: The entrance to the parking area is via Restalrig Road South. Take a left before the bridge into the car park of the Registers of Scotland building, then follow the railway line to the back of the brown brick building behind theirs. Access to the building is available via a big blue door at our basement entrance. More information, including parking map here.
