Transecologies: Bridging gender, environment and social justice

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh event

21st August 24

For EAF24, members of the Rhubaba writing group joined us for a fascinating and thought-provoking conversation with Brigitte Baptiste, a pioneering trans ecologist, educator, and activist from Colombia. Hosted by the EAF Civic Programme, this intimate session delved into the intersection of environmental sustainability, gender identity, and ecological justice as part of Mas Arte Mas Accion’s Around A Tree installation and programme at the Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh.

In this conversation, Brigitte discussed her journey in both the environmental and trans movements, the importance of recognizing the interconnections between gender and nature, and how ecology can provide new insights into building inclusive, sustainable futures for all communities. We shared reflective questions, such as ‘As artists and activists, how do we make action?’
