PAST EVENT: This was part of the EAF25 programme.
What could an archive dedicated to trans masc narratives become?
As part of the exhibition Memory is a Museum, audiences joined Ellis Jackson Kroese, the artist behind Trans Masc Studies, for a relaxed morning launch of the ongoing research project into masculine-leaning gender diversity in Scotland. Through weaving together internet-based relics, local collaborations, and the generous contributions of the Scottish trans masculine community, the work questioned whose stories are made visible.
As well as a Q+A with the artist, Jackson Kroese’s work was be brought to life by performer, experimental mover and trans activist Adam Kashmiry. Kashmiry is the star of and inspiration behind National Theatre of Scotland multi-award winning theatre production, and Bafta-winning film Adam, the remarkable story of a young trans man and his struggle across genders and borders to be himself.
Cases of archive material, an exhibition zine, and wearable artworks, were on display in the EAF25 Welcome Space for visitors to engage with and take home — visitors become custodians; the museum expands; memory moves, lives, persists.
