Newly installed for continuing use after its original EAF24 installation, Around a Tree is a site for gathering, dialogue, and exchange, created by Colombian foundation Más Arte Más Acción.
The table, which has travelled globally in many forms, invites visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with pressing conversations on the climate crisis. Surrounding a Portuguese Oak sapling, the table is made from a 164-year-old Lebanese Cedar felled in the Garden due to needle blight, embodying climate resilience. Seated around it, visitors connect: with each other, with nature, and with new perspectives.
The table has hosted events led by artists, activists, and thinkers, including Espiral da Morte, a performance from UÝRA, a trans-Indigenous performance artist and biologist, in 2025. Decolonising the Outdoors’ creative, collective workshop diaspora / sunago also took inspiration from the themes of the installation. These gatherings explore themes from climate justice to community resilience, offering a space for shared learning.
