Alice Rekab: Legacy Materials

EAF25 Pavilion event

19th August 25

As part of their commission for EAF25, Alice Rekab presented a trilingual performance at the EAF Pavilion, weaving together the lives of two remarkable women: the artist’s Irish and Sierra Leonean grandmothers. Told in Irish (Gaeilge), English, and Krio, Scéal Mo Mhamí Bán and Scéal Mhamí Gorm explored parallel histories shaped by civil war, sacrifice, resilience, and love.

Though these women never met, their stories echo one another — revealing the legacies we inherit, both spoken and unspoken, and honouring the threads of memory that connect generations. Exploring belonging and identity through histories of resistance and family ties, the performance reflected the themes of Alice Rekab’s vibrant billboard commission, Let Me Show You Who I Am.
