This gift donation of £7 supports the travel and lunch of one participant in our Wester Hailes Adult Art Group to attend a creative day out in Edinburgh.
‘For just one day, all seemed to be right with the world after experiencing a little bit of paradise, thanks to the generosity of two great artists.’ – Participant, Wester Hailes Adult Art Group.
Wester Hailes Art Group comes together every couple of months for trips led by Edinburgh Art Festival Community Engagement, the group comprises of local residents, aged 30-75, associated with WHALE Arts and people living in the South West of Edinburgh. The outings take into account the group's knowledge and interests in historic and modern art, and introduces them to contemporary art practice.
Your donation would support a participant to attend one of our trips, which includes lunch, visiting an exhibition, meeting an artist/specialist, and trying out new artistic techniques. Trips encourage participants to understand the wonderful cultural resources in their city, building participants confidence in exploring the city whilst also combatting social isolation, and supporting people to make social connections to improve sociability and wellbeing.
More about the programme:
Edinburgh Art Festival Community Engagement is an ongoing programme of learning and inclusion activities, which puts the city’s communities at the heart of the festival and cultural production. The programme builds long-term relationships with contemporary artists, partners and community organisations, groups, schools and audiences. Through tailored tours, workshops and projects, often co-facilitated with an artist or specialist, we offer participants unique experiences; introducing and inspiring people of all ages to get creative. The programme unlocks the city, and develops cultural projects in communities, removing barriers and broadening access to visual art and expression, with partnership community commission projects the keystone to our work in communities.
Between 2019-2022, we are working in partnership with WHALE Arts, a community-led charity, social-enterprise and cultural anchor organisation, whose mission is to be the creative heart of a vibrant, thriving Wester Hailes, working together to create a programme of activities, leading to the development of a public artwork commission in 2022, benefitting the community, and having legacy for years to come.
