Dazzle Day Out

Join us for a fun-filled free family day out!

On the concluding day of Leith Festival, Edinburgh Art Festival is running a series of family-friendly events to celebrate the launch of Ciara Phillips’ Every Woman, co-commissioned with 14-18 NOW as the fourth in a series of 'Dazzle Ships’ created by contemporary artists to commemorate the First World War. On Sunday 19 June Sunday we will take over the Vine Trust Barge with fun-filled family activities and festivities in sight of this exciting new art installation berthed in the Port of Leith.

The afternoon will include live theatre from Citadel Arts Group with extracts from their double bill of plays celebrating the Leith way of life: Leith Doctors and Dockers; as well as a series of poetry readings from 10 female writers responding to the theme and context of Ciara Phillips’ Every Woman. There will be free art activities for all ages including dazzle yarn bombing, the chance to paint your own dazzle ship and build a family dazzle collage. In the cinema room of the Vine Trust we will be showing behind the scenes footage of the exciting process of transforming the MV Fingal and there will also be an exhibition of artwork by Wardie Primary School’s Creative Crocodiles, who have used dazzle designs to create awareness of what it feels like to be a child with dyslexia. And in addition to all this Manna House Bakery will be there with a special pop up stall selling a delightful array of their famous cakes and specialist teas.
