Festival Director to move on to Collective

Having directed ten editions of Edinburgh Art Festival, our Festival Director Sorcha Carey will be moving on to Collective in February to take up the role of Director.

Throughout her time as Director, Sorcha has led the festival through a period of sustained development, initiating a range of new supported opportunities for artists, including: Platform, which since 2015 has supported 25+ early career artists to make and present new work within the festival; instigating an annual year-long paid internship to support the next generation of programmers; and developed a growing Community Engagement programme.

As curator of the festival’s annual commissions programme, she has worked with over 80 artists from Scotland, the UK and internationally to develop new temporary and permanent projects for a range of public and historic sites across Edinburgh.

The Board and Festival Team will miss her greatly and would like to thank Sorcha for her leadership, her passionate and tireless work throughout her time at the helm, and for her vision in shaping the festival into the city-wide celebration of visual arts that it is today – and we wish her all the best in her new role at Collective.
