Writer and activist Jim Slaven will lead you along this peaceful and picturesque final section of the canal we uncover hidden clues linking to Edinburgh’s industrial past. Learn about the importance of the canal to the city, its economic and social significance, and how its fortunes have changed over the last two centuries.

Access: Narrow paths throughout with steep stairs closest to Water of Leith Visitor Centre.

Departure point: The tour starts outside the Water of Leith Visitor Centre, Lanark Road, EH14 1TQ. Tap here for directions. Walk ends at Lochrin Basin.

Tours with Jean Bareham

Wednesdays 10 and 24 August | 11am – 12.45pm | £5 / conc. £3

Local guide and author Jean Bareham will explore Edinburgh’s industrial history and some highlights from our Commissions Programme as we take a gentle stroll along the canal side. Breathe easy and enjoy a slice of nature in this vibrant wildlife corridor right next to the city centre.

Access: A flat walk of one mile along pavements and good tracks with one flight of stairs (roughly 20 steps) avoidable upon request.
