There is more than one way to tell a story. Reinterpret our world with practices of experimental theatre and speculative fiction rooted in empowerment of the so-called underclass! Imagine new ways to act into being, an anti-racist, ableist, gender-conforming world.
Open to all; seasoned thespians, lovers of drama and curious storytellers alike.
About the facilitators
Katucha Bento manifests her craft in storytelling and is a new explorer of weaving, drawing dreams and experimenting with new artefacts. She is a Lecturer in Race and Decolonial Studies in the Sociology department at the University of Edinburgh and the first honorary chaplain in Candomblé and is the co-founder of the Free Afro-Brazilian University of Sociology and Communication (UNAFRO). Katucha’s main inspirations come from quilombola and samba communities, poetry, queer language and Black Decolonial feminisms that create possibilities to promote ethics of caring with accountability and power to the people with love as a revolutionary tool for change.
Ria Andrews is a multidisciplinary creative who enjoys exploring themes of identity, representation and joy through various art mediums, whether that be poetry, music or photography. As an educator, she enjoys guiding others to find their own ways in exploring these themes in their own creative practice, through an intersectional lens rooted in anti-racist practices, striving to make arts more accessible for everyone – especially (but not limited to) those from marginalised communities, that she is also part of.
Maria Morava is a multidisciplinary artist, journalist and Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner. She is co-organiser of Rehearsal Space, a collective focused on creative movement-building, and works alongside TOScotland to practice forum theatre with communities reimagining harm and healing. Her work centres themes of fragmentation, collectivity and justice, and is realised best when in collaboration with others.
