The exhibition re-examines stories about blackness from a different perspective, challenging narratives that we have been taught historically. Reclamation of the Exposition explores the fetishisation of black women’s bodies, through the human displays in ethnographic expositions. In new work, Adekunle explores the importance of preserving culture and tradition. She references the division of Africa in the Berlin Conference of 1884 and the demonised orisha Èṣù to illustrate the lasting effects the West had had on Nigeria.
