Sequoia Danielle Barnes: Everything Is Satisfactual

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

Through an Afro-surreal retelling of Br’er Rabbit and the Tar Baby, this new body of work unravels how the consumption of cuteness perpetuates oppression and marginalisation including racialisation, infantilism, misogyny and brutality.

Barnes has produced a series of sculptures that hybridise characters from African-American folklore with the aesthetics of ‘playthings’, reflecting the sinister subliminal message underneath the soft, squishy surface of seemingly ‘innocent’ objects.

Join us to celebrate the opening of this exhibition at our Leith Launches event.

Supported by Creative Scotland and City of Edinburgh Council.
