Rosie’s Disobedient Press

City Art Centre exhibition

9th August 24 - 25th August 24

PAST EXHIBITION: This was part of the 2024 programme

For the 2024 Festival, EAF invited Rosie’s Disobedient Press, a collaborative project by artists Lisette May Monroe and Adrien Howard, to reflect on the framework for EAF’s 20th Birthday and respond to the archiving of the city’s political history over the past 20 years.

Rosie’s worked with archives and organisations local to Edinburgh to look at language and words as a historical act of resistance and how they continue to resonate, seeking information on the history of protest in Edinburgh and bringing hidden stories to the fore.

Rosie’s presented this archival material in print and banners throughout the city, and on wearables (including caps, shirts and badges) available at the EAF24 Welcome Space at the City Art Centre, dispersing across the city like protestors after a march. Proceeds from sales of these items were redistributed back to organisations working in 2024 to preserve these histories.

Run in collaboration with Glasgow International Festival (7 – 23 June 2024) and working with designer Mitchell F. Gilles, this work reflects on the often overlooked enclaves of a city during times of cultural spectacle.

Items from the Rosie’s Disobedient Press wearables collection are available to order through the RDP shop.

This work is generously supported by JACK ARTS Scotland, part of the BUILDHOLLYWOOD family, Edinburgh World Heritage, and Scottish Government’s Festivals EXPO Fund.
