PAST EVENT: This was part of the 2024 programme
EAF invited Mele Broomes to create an Opening Performance that responded to the EAF24 Framework. Through progressions of vocal callings accompanied by live melodies and choreographies, this work payed homage to a series of conversations facilitated by Mele and the living archive.
The conversations serve as a guidance in reconnecting with natural sources; reflects on our bodies undergoing change influenced by constructs of time and the environment; and foregrounds the relationship between health and embodiment practices that centres individuals’ diasporic interpretations of well-being.
through warm temperatures was about affirming past beliefs in castor oil: a natural remedy, an elixir, and an historic and abundant natural source that transcends categorisation and boundaries.
Care considerations: This performance reflects on uncomfortable experiences with health, body and identity, and contains some partial nudity and optional audience interaction. The performance involves a procession from indoors to outdoors across a space with level access throughout, and includes spectators standing outside.

This work is generously supported by Scottish Government’s Festivals EXPO Fund and Take Me Somewhere.
