For EAF25, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop present this installation of new work by Megan Rudden in their Hawthornvale Space. The work explores the relationship between sculpture and language through the idea of the ecotone, a transitional space between two states.
The Ecotone describes a transitional space between two environments, a boundary that does not separate but rather intimately connects different systems. Rudden’s cast and carved and scattered materials consider the material world through words and watery relations.
Liquid metaphors develop connections between sculpture, language and the body. Slippery materials, salt, water, resin, mothers’ milk, acrylic, and words, flow through the ecotone, taking form for a moment only to dissolve, creating a temporary overlap between states. At the heart of the installation is the body in fluid form, a fundamental part of the natural world, neither separated from, nor privileged to it.
