IKEA: Magical Patterns

Dovecot Studios exhibition

18th July 25 - 17th January 26

Brought to a UK audience for the first time from the IKEA Museum, Magical Patterns showcases the breadth and depth of IKEA’s textile department, demonstrating how the iconic Swedish furniture retailer’s commitment to innovation and experimentation has helped to put Swedish design on the map. With 180 designs on display, the exhibition delves into how IKEA has supported experimental designers over six decades — from 10-gruppen to Zandra Rhodes.

The exhibition provides a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process that has defined the iconic patterns of IKEA. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the playful and vibrant designs that have shaped Swedish design, from the famous stripy RANDIG BANAN to the bold, colourful ANNIKEN broccoli motif. Featuring both vintage and contemporary fabrics, Magical Patterns offers a unique opportunity to experience how design trends and cultural movements have influenced the textile collection from IKEA.

IKEA: Magical Patterns an exploration of winding patterns, explosive colours and bold combinations. You can weave your way through some familiar friends, and quite literally get a feel for the fabric of history. Play around and create your own pattern combinations in all kinds of colours in our pop-up design studio.

IKEA: Magical Patterns is by the IKEA Museum.
