EAF Art Tours: Karol Radziszewski ‘Filo’ BSL Tour & Creative Workshop

City Art Centre event

15th August 24 - 15th August 24

PAST EVENT: This was part of the 2024 programme

Karol Radziszewski’s curated exhibition, co-commissioned with Auto Italia, collected rare photographs and ephemera to trace the history of ‘Filo’ Magazine, one of the first underground queer magazines in Central-Eastern Europe founded by activist Ryszard Kisiel. Begun in response to Polish communist police suppression of sexual minorities, underground magazine ‘Filo’ furthered activist conversations about sexuality, creativity and politics.

For this event, participants joined Trudi Collier on this tour of Radziszewski’s first Scottish solo exhibition; exploring the unknown histories of LGBTQ+ communities beyond the US and Western Europe. A creative making workshop to reflect on themes and mediums of the exhibition was facilitated by artist Klarissa Webster within the City Art Centre.

Care considerations: This exhibition contained nude photography and illustrated archival material. The City Art Centre tour was performed in BSL with an interpreter providing an English voiceover. There is step-free access throughout the building. Interpreters were be present throughout the creative workshop.

This event was in collaboration with Edinburgh Deaf Festival. Karol Radziszewski’s exhibition Filo was co-commissioned with Auto Italia, and supported by the PLACE Programme, a partnership between Edinburgh Festivals, Scottish Government, City of Edinburgh Council and Creative Scotland.
