Join curator Gemma Rolls-Bentley and artist France-Lise McGurn to close out Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970–1990, with this free talk drawing out the queer threads running through the exhibition.
Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970–1990 is a major survey of feminist art celebrating the women who challenged and changed the face of British culture. From the Women’s Liberation Movement to peace movements, Section 28 and the AIDS epidemic to the visibility of Black and South Asian women artists, the exhibition showcases the work of over 100 artists and collectives forged against the backdrop of seismic social, economic and political change over two decades.
With author of Queer Art: From Canvas to Club and the Spaces Between, Gemma Rolls-Bentley, and Glasgow-born painter France-Lise McGurn (whose mother, Rita McGurn, is a featured artist in the exhibition) celebrate the interwoven histories of queer and feminist movements and the women that made them.
